Merchandising is about planning and developing a strategy to enable a company to sell a range of products that delivers sales and profit targets. A Merchandiser will work closely with a Buyer to ensure the product that's bought will enable them to achieve the sales plan.
Also, a merchandiser needs to know what’s new on the market, what the customers will like and which products will make a profit.
• Ensures all products on display are clean and in good condition.
• Change or rotate window displays, interior display areas, or signage to reflect changes in inventory or promotion.
• Place prices or descriptive signs on backdrops, fixtures, merchandise, or floor.
• Consult with store managers, buyers, sales associates, housekeeping staff, or engineering staff to determine appropriate placement of displays or products.
• Analyzing past sales figures/trends to anticipate future product needs.
• Devising a merchandise plan using good techniques.
• Relaying the merchandise plan to the buyer who, in turn, can decide on what products, styles, colors etc. to purchase and from which suppliers, at what price.
• Devising a contract for the suppliers including quality control, accuracy and flexibility. This is done throughout the season.
