A Bid Manager is an executive sales role within an organization, responsible for managing bids in response to Request for Proposals (RFPs) from customers. Bid Managers orchestrate the creation of the solution and proposal as ‘Bid Project Managers’ ensuring compliance with customer requirements and highlighting company value proposition.
Bid managers typically work with teams collected together from line functions for the temporary duration of the bid project, and hence need to have strong leadership skills to manage bids successfully.
Responsibilities:
• Liaise with the Business Development Team
• Responsible for all aspects of Bid Management & new business development
• Ensuring compliance with all company procedures
• Managing the internal and external resources on bids, assist in monitoring the bid budget
• Understanding the client’s requirements, the project budget and the commercial/legal implications of the project
• Ensuring that all required surveys, discussions with local authorities and any other bodies take place
• Liaising with and ensuring proper performance from appointed designers/advisors. Ensuring coordination between disciplines;
• Implementing the agreed bid strategy, monitor compliance with it and report back to your line manager;
• Ensuring projects adopt the company’s current favoured solutions in both design and buildability and that solutions produced are fully coordinated and comply with bid strategy;
• Bring in lessons learned from previous bids/projects;
• Attend or ensure attendance at all required meetings/presentations in connection with the bid;
• Preparing input into presentations, ensure all required models, fly throughs, presentation materials and the like are available;
• Liaising with internal colleagues, estimating, planning, commercial and the like to ensure a coordinated approach to the bid submission;
• Preparing for and assisting in managing the bid through the company’s sign off procedures;
• Ensuring that the company’s position and risk is correctly expressed in the submission documents;
• Ensuring the timely completion of all bid submission information, coordination, cajoling, organising, planning, including final document production and binding;
• Post submission, managing the responses to clarification questions and the whole process to a successful conclusion.
• Plan and Schedule all activities related to tendering
• Identify and meet within construction contracting industry owners/managers, design engineers and contractors through networking, conferences and committees. The business development professional will spend the majority of their time in face to face meetings with potential customers.
• Influence infrastructure bid processes by performing presentations, providing product/service specifications, educating engineers and procurement staff and leveraging relationships.
• Develop subcontractor relationships.
• Oversee projects to ensure quality and performance.
• Review bid opportunities, oversee small/minority business outreach programs, and coordinate with company bid-estimating personnel.
• Prepare and submit proposals including drafting/reviewing proposal narratives, completing and submitting public bids and providing private/sole-source quotes.
• Prepare and submit technical submittals for won projects.
• Develop relationships between engineering firms and general contractors to provide comprehensive design/build programs.
