Job Description
Basic Function
Responsible for installation, monitoring, maintenance and support of hardware, software as well as Data network and VoIP communications infrastructure. Primary responsibility for the setup of new user accounts and providing 1st line support for day-to-day user support issues.
Job Scope
Incumbent is an IT professional with good knowledge of a particular area of expertise plus working knowledge of other related disciplines. Work is generally supervised by senior staff.
PRINCIPAL CONTACTS
INTERNAL: Frequent contact with IT Systems Specialist/Manager for direction and guidance, and with customers for their requirements. Also, frequent contact with procurement for purchasing requests.
EXTERNAL: Frequent contact with vendors for product information and IT project status.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES
Function Description
1. Planning and Purchasing
- Maintains schedule of new users, office moves and new hardware/software installations
- Coordinates purchasing of consumables, peripherals, and other basic IT equipment with procurement
2. Installation
- Assists with the rollout/installation of new network and communications hardware, ETAP, forecast, CRM, software, and automation system.
- Sets up and maintains user accounts, including email accounts, desktop builds (ensuring users have access to appropriate software), user security and access to shared network resources.
- Conducts electrical safety checks on equipment
3. Support
- Provides 1st line support to users in response to helpdesk calls or other issues
- Always stays alert to data and network security procedures and advises users on appropriate security measures
- Troubleshoots networking and communications problems, working in conjunction with Sr IT Network Analyst to find root causes of issues and develop solutions
- Responds and resolves issues within agreed time limits
- Performs planned maintenance in accordance with manufacturer specifications and industry best-practice
- Provides on-call support where required for unplanned and emergency maintenance
4. Reporting
- Analyse performance, maintenance and security reports as requested
- Monitors system usage and security policies, e.g., web usage – produces reports and escalates infractions as required
5. Performs any job-related activities as requested by the management
